First of all, major props to the ladies at Fat Bottom Bakery for organizing the 1st ever East Bay Vegan Bakesale in front of Issues in Oakland last Saturday. With the help of some amazing bakers and some very hungry patrons, they raked in an astounding total of $2192! The beneficiaries? Laurel Elementary School (the students even pitched in and made the uber cute sign) and Bad Rap Pit Bull Rescue. Cutest pups EVER.

The treats were up for grabs starting at 11 am. That’s when we
intended to be there. The reality was that our lagging asses rolled up around 1pm instead. This time, our 4 surprise flavors included Rocky Road, Lemon, Mocha Almond & a Savory Pizza roll with
Daiya vegan cheese. To our surprise, there was a line of people waiting for us to arrive! Holy ego boost Batman! Within 30 minutes we were completely sold out. Not bad, right? I even heard some guy say “Oh my God dude, this is the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth” as he munched on one of our Rocky Road rolls. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Thanks guy!

After about 20 minutes of people watching, we decided to grab a to-go box. A lot of the stuff was already sold out but we did manage to get our hands on a piece of lemon pie from
Local Love, a key lime cayenne cookie from
The Inspired Cookie, a piece of cherry/apple pie and a chunk of chocolate cake from
Pure Joy Bakery and of course, a super rich peanut butter cup which I refused to share. If I had a choice, we would have purchased a few more things but we decided that during our
marathon training, we should set a $20 limit and eat responsibly.
Which my husband did.
Me? I ate everything over the weekend and tried not to fight my husband for this last piece of cake. Lucky for him, I decided to be nice.

We were stoked to see some familiar faces, meet some new people & of course, try out new baked goods. My favorite part of the day? Watching non-vegan people walk by, try something and say “WOW”.
So awesome!
Until next time….happy baking and happy eating! See you at the next one!
